“ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during their lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS!”
During the month of February, WE RISE, WE DANCE throughout hundreds of countries across the world to show what one billion looks like. WE RISE with our dancing, our poetry, our paintings, our expressions of self, which allows us convey who we are, our joy, and the determination that we are survivors and will not be defeated.
